Ashley Jones, RN/Assistant Director of Nursing at Lee Health & Rehab, received the 2015 Summit Award For Empowering Manager at the HealthCare Service Excellence Conference held February 22-25, 2015 in Long Beach, California. The three day forum featured a gathering of health care professionals from hospitals, community health centers and long term facilities.

This national award recognizes hard work, innovation and dedication in service excellence and is given to individuals for their exceptional commitment in making a difference to those they serve in health care. The Empowering Manager category highlights leaders who encourage individuals to achieve great results.

Commonwealth Care of Roanoke, the parent company of Lee Health & Rehab, requested nominations for the service excellence awards from their 12 facilities in Virginia. Jones was not aware that an application had been submitted by Lee Health & Rehab on her behalf. Commonwealth Care reviewed the nominations and submitted several including Jones’ information for the national awards.

Jones stated that service excellence is something that she and the company strive for every day. “To be personally rewarded for this is wonderful,” she added. “I try to be a role model for others and this makes you feel that what you are doing is good and worthwhile.”

The award winner defines service excellence “as treating others the way that you want to be treated. If you treat others the way that you treat your family, you will come out on top.” She points out that Commonwealth Care has made service excellence a priority for all positions adding that “it speaks volumes about the company that they are willing to devote time to it.”

A 2003 Lee High School graduate, Jones received her Registered Nursing degree at Mountain Empire Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at King College. She has been affiliated with Lee Health for almost five years and was pleased to obtain a position in Lee County.  “This job offered me an opportunity to come back to where I grew up. Part of my heart is here and I want to stay in the community and give back,” she stated.
