I suffered a stroke in August which affected my left leg and left arm.  I was unable to walk. I could not move my fingers or even grip.  Rehab encouraged me to work hard every day and now I’m able to walk without a walker, and I’m able to grip and use my arm and hand. I can even raise my arm above my head.  I almost gave up and became depressed but because of the rehab encouraging me and telling me I could do it, I managed to continue to improve and today I can walk out feeling like I have completely recovered. I am totally satisfied with the care, all the staff were very kind, and they are excellent in everything.  I appreciate all of them.  I can never thank them enough for helping me through are very distraught time in my life.

My dad, Ellis Farmer, was admitted to the Harlan Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) on 6/16/2015. He was very confused and having hallucinations.  During his stay, they diagnosed him with dementia.  They kept telling me they could not admit him as acute but no one would explain what this meant. Even though he stayed confused they said they were going to discharge him but he would need 24/7 care. If we had the finances this would not have been an issue. I begged and pleaded for help to place him in one of the local nursing homes. We just wanted our dad to be safe.

One of the nurses told me about Lee Health & Rehab.  I called Karen Mullins on Monday and she went above and beyond anyone I have ever seen.  She was able to get my dad transferred on Tuesday. I cannot praise the employees on this place enough. The compassion for the patients and the families that we have seen is just a few short days is remarkable. God answered prayers and sent us an angel named Karen Mullins.  We will forever be grateful.

Everyone here are very nice and treated me very well. I am very satisfied with the rehab and therapy team.  I would like to have stayed much longer but because of my wife who needs me at home I have to leave.  I feel much better now.  I want to thank everyone here.

-Chad King, Pennington Gap, VA

I had a supportive staff during my stay here. I have gained a lot and I had a pleasant experience. I was glad to be close to home so I could have more visits with my son and he could take me home to see my dog.

I want to thank all of you for being so good to me. All the help I got in this place is worth everything to me. The girls that work in this place know what to do. You got good girls on the floor, the ones that do the baths and the ones that make up the beds. Everyone is working together.

– Ruby Varner

I like it here. Everyone is good to me. I am a lot better than when I first came. I couldn’t hardly get up and down or even walk. Now I can walk on a walker with help. If I needed rehab again I would definitely come back here.

– Nadine Blair

I have been very pleased with the care I have received at Lee Health & Rehab Center. The physical therapy and occupational therapy staff were both so caring and friendly. They have helped me regain my strength now so I can return home. I am now able to walk independently and my balance has improved greatly. I would like to thank all the staff at this facility for the excellent care I received during my stay.

I suppose we had all rather be at home, but because I had to be here are my thoughts. I can only give the highest praise for my care to my O.T.- Jane Hill, my P.T. –Ashley Pennington who were outstanding. Those in these departments were loving and friendly too. There was always plenty of food. My body and room were kept clean. The “legal pill pushers” were caring and friendly. Thank you to one and all. You are truly my loving and new friends. Overall my body seems stronger.

I have come here a number of different times for therapy and the staff are excellent; treat you like a human being and care about you too. I could make this my home if I had to.

Thank God I’m going home, but if I have to go to a home, this is where I want to be.”

The thought of staying in a nursing home/rehab facility had never crossed my mind. On July 14, 2010, reality set in after enduring surgery for a fracture femur. My family informed me that my recovery would not be in my home. I would need to be in a rehab facility for extensive physical therapy for the next three months. My family was given three different facilities to choose from, and the decision was made to keep me as close to home as possible. On July 15, 2010, I was admitted to Lee Health & Rehab. I was in pain, scared and did not know what to expect. After a couple of hours of being at your facility, I felt I had another family. The staff is very efficient, knowledgeable, and most of all, “caring.” They go above and beyond “their call of duty.” My stay at your facility has been a very rewarding and comforting stay. I could not have asked for better care and love from all I have been associated with.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

To the rehabilitation department and to the nursing staff on Stallard Hall of Lee Health & Rehab of Pennington Gap. I would like to say thanks to each and every one of you for the kindness and excellent care you gave me during my stay. When I left the hospital I was unable to walk or care for myself. After receiving physical therapy and occupational therapy, I am now back home walking without any assistance and enjoying a normal life again for the first time in a long time. Again thanks.

– William Harold Garrett

Robert thought everyone was real nice. The Facility is immaculate. Bob and I was pleased with the kindness shown to him by everyone. All the workers were nice and courteous to us. We would recommend your home to everyone. We thank everyone who worked with Bob.

I came here and it seems like the therapy is more one-on-one than where I was before. Everybody has been nice and good to me. I have enjoyed the food.

5-months ago, I had a very bad car accident which gave me multiple injuries. When I came here from Kingsport, this is where everything started for me. Over there, I just laid in the bed. I still have a place on my left heel that’s just now almost healed. My therapy started here. The very next morning after coming here, the girls came and got me and started working with me. I started with a walker, and now I can walk from my room to the therapy room with only a cane. I came here from over there and it’s like a whole new world. The therapy department treats you like you actually mean something here, like you’re somebody. I went from laying in the bed, to the ambulance, to here, and now I’m stronger in my legs and my upper and lower body. Being able to walk on a cane has brought back a part of my life I had, that I had temporarily lost. I am feeling and thinking stronger with the motivation to return to some kind of work again.

I wish to Thank the staff for the loving care of my sister, Elizabeth Carpenter, has received since entering the Rehab Center five years ago. Her normal good health was complicated this year when she received twenty radiation treatments for cancer. The Rehab Center and the Norton Cancer Center worked together to make this as easy as possible for her. We are fortunate to have your services in Lee County.
