Resident Spotlight: Helen Evans

Each week, we feature a resident at Lee Health & Rehab Center to learn more about them and share their story.  We call this our Resident Spotlight Series.  This week, we would like to introduce one of our new residents, Helen!

Helen Evans, who has down syndrome, came to reside at Lee Health and Rehab for respite and physical therapy on May 30, 2020. She has been such a blessing to all those around her during her few months here and has shown great progress in her time here. While she’s been here, she’s accomplished so much, and her quality of life has improved dramatically. With the help of our physical therapy team, Helen has even started to walk!

Along with improving medically, she has blossomed, and the nurses have stated that Helen is a joy to be around.  She enjoys accompanying the nurses and eating with them, especially her favorite snacks, popsicles! When the staff tells her they love her, she always replies that she loves them too.

During her stay here, Helen loves to take part in the various activities and loves singing at the weekly church services.  One of her proudest moments was when she learned to whistle, which she let out a huge laugh the first time she heard the noise come out.

Helen can do anything she sets her mind to and continues to amaze our staff. She is special to the center in many ways, and we are very thankful to be able to help her be the best version of herself that she can be.
