Special Vaccination Update: September 30th, 2021

Posted on:

Dear Patients and Families:

As you may be aware, the CDC has recently approved for all nursing home patients to receive a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine, and the FDA has also endorsed administration of the Pfizer booster vaccination through an amended emergency use authorization. In anticipation of this new recommendation, we have prepared to administer booster doses as quickly as possible and expect to receive our supply from the Virginia Department of Health within the next week. Only patients who have received their first two doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be eligible for this booster dose. Currently, the CDC recommends that patients who have received the initial two doses of the Moderna vaccine and who are moderately or severely immunocompromised receive an additional dose of the Moderna vaccine. There has been no recommendation at this time to administer additional doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, although we are monitoring the situation very closely.

Consent forms will be emailed today to patients or their representatives for electronic signature. Please be aware that the email will be sent from “Docusign”. If we do not have an email address and cell phone number for an individual on file, you may contact me by calling 276-546-4566 or I will be contacting you to provide verbal consent.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Rebekah Rutledge, BSN, RN, RAC-CT, CIC
Director of Nursing
